The dissertation analyzes the essence of forensic research and on the basis of the features that are inherent in research in the field of forensic technology as a section of forensics, the concept of «technical-forensic research» is defined. Also, on the basis of the selected features of such researches are defined the existing varieties and the characteristic is given. The preconditions for the emergence of technical-forensic research have been clarified and the periodization of their development in Ukraine has been developed. The state of scientific study of issues related to the appointment and conduct of technical-forensic research is determined. The structure of technical-forensic research is outlined and their place in the theory and practice of crime investigation is established. The subject and object of technical-forensic research are characterized, the classification of such researches is carried out and the tasks which are solved by them are formulated. The directions of improvement of the subjective component of technical-forensic research and offers on improvement of their terminological apparatus are offered. The levels and elements of the methodology of technical-forensic research are determined. The shortcomings of regulatory and legal support for certain types of technical-forensic research are identified, proposals are made to improve the legal regulation of such research, the concept of information and technical support of technical-forensic research is formulated, their condition and existing shortcomings are identified, and suggestions for improving these components are provided of technical-forensic research.
