Object – tactics in sport; goal – theoretical and methodological substantiation of tactics in modern Olympic combat sports; methods are methods of theoretical and empirical levels of investigation, mathematical statistics; novelty – the concept of tactics in modern Olympic combat sports was substantiated; the types of participation tactics of elite athletes in competition systems within Olympic cycles in individual and team events were identified; types of tactics of weight category choice by elite athletes were discovered; the approaches to the formation of participation tactics of combat athletes in competition system, based on the features of the Olympic qualification system were substantiated; results – the conceptual issues of tactics in modern Olympic combat sports were developed; the types of participation tactics of elite combat athletes in the competition systems of the season, one and several Olympic cycles were established; educational content was formed and the ways of implementation of knowledge on tactics and tactical training in modern Olympic combat sports in educational process of applicants of three levels of higher education were determined; algorithmic educational and game tools for tactical training of athletes at different stages of long-term training were developed; specialization − physical education and sport.
