Essay

Based on the analysis of scholarly papers, literary, visual, material and oral sources, for the first time in the Ukrainian ethnology, it was reconstructed the foundations, establishment and development of the ethnic artistic tradition of beaded decoration of the Ukrainian folk costume (late 18th c. till nowadays) and explored cause and effect mechanisms of evolutionary processes occurring in the system of the analyzed tradition. The topicality of the paper can be explained by the negative effects of globalization, particularly by the challenges and threats of acculturation that lead to the identity crisis. Modern science especially concentrates on the discourse about ethnical traditions which ensure preservation and reproduction of the ethnical society as a specific and unique system, thus taking an active part in modeling culture-forming processes. Artistic traditions occupy a particular place since numerous closely interconnected intellectual and material markers of the ethnic culture have been formed and established in their contexts.
