Essay

The dissertation is devoted to a comprehensive study of the mass-circulation press, which was published on the territory of modern Ukraine during 1917-1941. It covers a wide range of issues related to the processes of formation, development and functioning of mass-circulation newspapers of Ukraine during 1917-1941. It is determined that the mass-circulation press of this period is a specific independent phenomenon of the history of the press, a separate type of newspaper periodicals, which served to form the Soviet ideological principles in all spheres of economic, political and cultural activity of the state, organized labor collectives to fulfill the tasks set by the government. The multi-circulation press combined all kinds of newspapers published by factory, plant, mine, transport institutions and enterprises, associations, political departments of the MTS, as well as editorial offices of collective and state farms, educational and cultural institutions, trade unions and public organizations. The specifics of the stages of formation of the masscirculation press were analyzed, the general and specific in the development of its various types are revealed, the specific features of the multi-circulation newspapers functioning were established on the background of the social and political situation existing in 1917 – early 1940s, which allowed to form new approaches of understanding the nature of historical, social and political factors influence on the development of the Ukrainian mass-circulation press in 1917–1941. In the dissertation the complex scientific and bibliographical reconstruction of the array of mass-circulation newspapers of Ukraine in 1917–1941 was carried out, which made it possible to fill the gaps in the retrospective part of the national bibliography of Ukraine; the importance of mass-circulation newspapers in 1917–1941 as a source base for further press studies was proved.
