In the context of intensification of the processes of transformation of the world community in the XXI century, when the public life has become extremely complex and dynamic, it is important to fix value orientations and improve technologies of living values, which young people guide and who are the driving force of any society. The dissertation presents the results of theoretical substantiation of the problem of formation of living values of students and the mechanism (model, algorithm and interactive methods) of its practical implementation in the educational process in higher education institutions of the USA and Ukraine. It is established that American and Ukrainian scientists and practitioners studied the problem of students’life values in the range of such characteristics as: human value system, value-semantic sphere of a personality, spiritual-psychological structure and educational-cultural level of a student, his mentality and sensitivity, life needs and goals, life orientations and styles of behavior, life strategies and prospects, life social communications, life competence and professional orientation, the role of higher education institutions in the formation of values of students. In the dissertation for the first time features of formation of living values of students in establishments of higher education of the USA are revealed and opened, namely: the student-centered approach; taking into account their mentality, sensitivity, life experience and life opportunities; relationship with the development of life needs, life goals and principles; using of a special algorithm; giving preference to interactive tools and methods; combination of real and virtual educational environment; implementation of animated design of life situations to determine the possibility of compliance with certain values; creating a student’s life portfolio – a code of his living values. The necessity of taking into account the mentality and sensitivity of students as a basis for the formation of their living values in higher education institutions is proved.
