The dissertation defines the pedagogical foundations of tutoring practices in the system of moral education of students in colleges and universities of England and theoretically substantiates the possibilities of using progressive English experience in modern educational practice of higher education institutions in Ukraine.
The paper emphasizes that the moral education of the younger generation is an important task facing modern institutions of higher education. The author emphasizes that education in England has always been prestigious, was at the top of the educational pyramid and for a long time its main task was to educate the elite of society and the spread of moral values. Tutoring practices, which still operate successfully in leading English higher education institutions, played an important role in this. Tutoring practices in colleges and universities in England are considered by the author as a purposeful meaningful professional activity of the tutor, which contributes to the moral development of the student’s personality, his or her entry into modern culture, becoming a subject and strategist of his or her own life, a worthy person.
Based on the analysis of the scientific literature, it was found that the issue of moral education of the younger generation by tutors was not the subject of special study. Meanwhile, many years of effective application of tutoring practices in the moral education of students in England, lack of awareness on this issue of research and teaching staff in Ukrainian universities, the availability of fragmented scientific research in this area and lack of thorough research determine the relevance of this study. The author underlines that consideration of the educational function of such a system requires careful treatment, because the accumulated achievements of moral education of students of higher education in pedagogical theory and practice of leading countries, including England, can serve as a proper basis for relevant tasks of moral education in Ukraine. The author emphasizes that the experience of tutoring practices in the moral education of students of colleges and universities in England is useful, but taking into account their own educational potential and the peculiarities of the socio-cultural reality of Ukraine.
The relevance and feasibility of the study is substantiated in the Introduction; the connection of work with scientific programs, plans, topics is indicated; the object, subject, purpose, tasks and methods of research are defined; the source base is indicated; the scientific novelty and practical significance of the obtained results are outlined; the approbation and implementation of research results are covered; the personal contribution of the author is indicated and the structure and volume of the dissertation work are given.
The concept and essence of tutoring practices in the system of moral education of colleges and universities in England are revealed in The First Chapter «Theoretical Foundations of Tutoring Practices in the System of Moral Education in England»; the analysis of influence of tutoring on formation of moral culture of students is carried out; methodological approaches to the study of the problem of pedagogical foundations of tutoring practices in moral education of students in colleges and universities of England are determined.
Tutoring programs of moral education in colleges and universities of England are analyzed in The Second Chapter «Implementation of Moral Education by Tutors in Colleges and Universities of England»; on the basis of the analysis of various scientific sources the principles, the maintenance and a choice of expedient forms, methods and means for moral education in tutoring practices of England are defined; the peculiarities of the implementation of moral education by tutors in working with students of colleges and universities in England are substantiated.
Ideas and experience of pedagogical foundations of tutoring practices in moral education of higher education in Ukraine in modern conditions are updated in the third Chapter «Using the Experience of Forming Moral Education of Students in the Process of Tutoring Practices in Students of Colleges and Universities of England in the Higher Education System of Ukraine»; the specifics of the use of certain forms and methods of tutoring practices of moral education of students in higher education institutions of Ukraine are described; methodological aspects in providing tutoring of moral education of students in higher education institutions of Ukraine are highlighted.
The main results of the study are summarized; promising areas for further pedagogical research are identified in Conclusions.
