Essay

The thesis presents a theoretical generalization and a new solution to the issue of narrative competence of personality, based on methodological principles of psychological hermeneutics and shows the elaboration of a concept of its interpretation as a factor of self-designing, creating a procedure for its diagnostics, justification and approbation of the training program of narrative competence in the context of development of personality’s ability to self-design. The main purpose of the study is to determine the impact of narrative competence of personality on one’s ability to self-design. Achieving this goal was facilitated by solving research tasks, within which the status of theoretical and methodological development of the issue of personality's ability to self-design was analyzed; the term of narrative competence of personality was substantiated; its semantic and structural features, criteria and levels of formation are determined; methodical tools for determining the formation of narrative competence and personality’s characteristics that contribute to the development of one’s ability to self-design were elaborated and tested; the connection between the formation of the narrative competence of personality and one’s ability to self-design was determined and experimentally proved; the structural-functional model of narrative competence is constructed; the program of training of narrative competence of personality which promotes the development of one’s ability to self-design is elaborated and tested. The scientific novelty of the obtained results is: for the first time the semantic and structural features of narrative competence as a factor of self-designing of personality, criteria and levels of its formation are determined; methodical tools for determining the formation of narrative competence and personality’s characteristics that contribute to the development of one’s ability to self-design were elaborated and tested; the connection between the formation of narrative competence of personality and one’s ability to self-design was found; the structural-functional model of narrative competence of personality in the context of development of one’s ability to self-design is constructed; the program of training of narrative competence which promotes the development of personality’ ability to self-design is elaborated and tested. deepened and expanded the idea of psychological features of self-designing of personality as well as theoretical provisions of modern narrative psychology; further development of clarification of terminology of psychological hermeneutics (differentiated content of the concepts "narrative competence", "ability of personality to self-design"); methodical tools for development of personality's ability to self-design; application of the approach of psychological hermeneutics to issues of development of narrative competence of personality. Theoretical significance of the research results is determined by their fundamental scientific novelty and is based on creation of theoretical model of narrative competence in the context of self-designing of personality and elaboration of scientific and methodological tools for its diagnostics and development. Scientific research and achievement are presented in three chapters of the thesis. In the first chapter "Theoretical and methodological foundations of research of personality’s narrative competence in the context of self-designing" psychological and hermeneutic principles of studying the issue of personality’s self-designing are defined, concept of ability to self-design is explained, its components are highlighted, factors of its development are identified; concept of narrative competence is substantiated, its semantic and structural features, criteria and levels of formation in the context of personality’s ability to self-design are defined. Addressing the hermeneutic paradigm made it possible to understand self-designing as a process of amplification and transformation of the semantic system of personality, which is carried out by understanding and interpreting its experience and is based on both internal intentions of personality and socio-cultural discourses. The ability of personality to self-design is determined by such psychological characteristics as desire for self-development, systemic reflection, tolerance for uncertainty, personal autonomy, long-term orientation of individual experience. Among main factors of development of personality's ability to self-design there are: motivational (desire of a personality to self-actualization, focus on self-accomplishment, desire to meet demands of society, focus on success); intellectual (cognitive and metacognitive); communicative (general speech competence, dialogic competence, interactive competence, narrative competence).
