The dissertation research is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the threats impact on the psychological safety of the future technical specialist personality.
The work analyses the current state of research into the problem of psychological safety of an individual, which is considered as a complex multi-level dynamic system reflecting the degree of mental security of a person, his/her ability to maintain an optimal level of functioning, the ability to eliminate emerging external and internal threats, and to maintain a sufficiently stable and efficient level of performing tasks in normal and extreme conditions of activity.
It is emphasised that by its very nature, a significant danger to a personality is a threat, but being under threat, a person is exposed to danger. The level of psychological threat significantly depends on the number and strength of the impact of dangerous factors on a person’s consciousness. The more such factors there are, the faster the danger turns into a psychological threat, resulting in destructive behaviour of the individual.
Four main areas of psychological safety research are identified. The first direction is the psychology of safe activity, which studies a person in the circumstances of various types of activity, including at high-risk facilities and in extreme and emergency situations. The second direction focuses on the psychological safety of the environment, its informational, social, subject-spatial and other characteristics that can influence the consciousness of a person, his/her behaviour, thus violating his/her safety. In the third direction, it is not the environment that is considered as a security phenomenon, but the person himself. The fourth direction considers a person as a security subject who can become both an organizer and a destroyer of both his/her own and public security.
In the work, safety perceptions are considered as mentally constructed images through which subjective representation and categorisation of certain parameters or the entire pattern of a situation (environment, conditions) as safe/unsafe for a particular person or social group is carried out. It is emphasized that the concept of security is a subjective image of certain circumstances that are significant for a person in connection with the need to overcome threats from the external and internal world. It has been found that the main criteria of psychological security of the individual include: human integrity, functioning of the body and psyche in accordance with existing norms, adequacy of reflection and attitude to the world, adaptability of functioning, protection of consciousness from changes in its state against the will of a person.
As a result of the empirical data analysis, it was concluded that the level of the general integrative indicator (index) of the psychological safety of the personality of the future technical specialist, which reflects the degree of mental security, the ability to maintain an optimal level of functioning, the ability to eliminate external and internal threats, and to maintain a sufficient level of efficiency and effectiveness vital activity is low. It has been empirically found that from 2021 to 2023, there is a significant decrease in the number of people with a high level of psychological security and an increase in the number of subjects with a low level of psychological security – from 20 to 1.5%.
