Essay

In the dissertation the theoretical, organizational and contextual principles of the professional training of the Masters in Foreign language and Applied linguistics in the higher educational establishments in the PRC were characterized and the possibilities of creative implementation of constructive ideas of the Chinese experience were substantiated. Based on the study of great amount of sources and factual material the retrospective of the formation of Applied linguistics as a science and academic subject in China was shown; taking into account the trends of higher education in the PRC the specifics of the periods of Applied linguistics development are characterized: I period (the period of traditional research) – the conception of Applied linguistics as a phenomenon; ІІ period (1870 – 1963) – the conception of Applied linguistics as an independent science; ІІІ period (1964 – 1977) – the period of stagnation; IV period (1978 – 1991) – period of fruitful development of Applied linguistics in China; V period (1992 – 2000) – period of active reforms; VІ period (2001 – nowadays) – the period of innovation. As a result of studying documentary and scientific sources the trends of the professional training of the Masters in Foreign language and Applied linguistics in the PRC have been identified: digitalization of education; individualization of training; transformation of the role and purpose of the teacher; lifelong learning support; internationalization of education; commercialization of education; the focus of the education system to modernization and reforming. It was found that the legal framework of the professional training of the Masters in Foreign language and Applied linguistics in the PRC is represented by a range of documents such as: documentation of the Chinese government, strategies and programs of the Ministry of Education of the PRC, regulations of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of the PRC, materials of the Centre for Linguistics and Applied linguistics and the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the Ministry of Education of the PRC. The activities of these organizations are aimed at the innovative development of vocational education in China and the achievement of world standards. It was revealed that as in 2019, there were 2,956 higher educational establishments operating throughout the country under the leadership of the Ministry of Education of the PRC. Among them there were 2688 higher educational establishments and 268 higher educational establishments for adults. In 2018/19 academic year, 174 higher educational establishments announced enrollment on the major “Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics”. It was found that: most universities that offer students a master's degree in “Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics” operate under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the PRC, but for example Beijing University of Aviation and Astronautics is subordinated to the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of the PRC; are mostly state-owned, research type higher educational establishments of mixed training profile and occupied worthy positions in the rankings, as they are the leading universities in China and in the world.
