The dissertation considers the notion of non-antropomorphic mediation in the English and Ukrainian fairy-tale worlds in the linguo-semiotic aspect aspect by studying the universal and ethnospecific symbols of the selected linguocultures in the texts of folk tales. The study defines theoretical background for fairy tale research withinthe linguosemiotic field, outlines the concept of a «fairy tale», and a «magic tale», in particular, with regard to approaches to the fairy tale analysis and fairy tale functions transformation, in addition to that, complex methodology is developed to analysenon-antropomorphic mediators in English and Ukrainian fairy-tale worlds. The study considers the concept of means of transition between the worlds and distinguishes between the notions of a «fairy-tale helper» and a «mythological mediator», which contributes to the formation of a detailed typology of non-antropomorphic mediators between the English and Ukrainian fairy tale worlds based on identification and analysis of their verbal exponents. Due to such specification the notions of non-antropomorphic and pseudo-antropomorphic mediation are introduced. Means of transitionbetween the worlds in English and Ukrainian fairy tales are classified according to the semiotic theoryinto index signs, iconic signs, and symbols, which serves as additional confirmation of the symbolization of the surrounding worldcoded in folklore texts.
