Essay

An analysis of a wide source base is carried out in the thesis, the vast majority of which was first processed and introduced into scientific circulation, for the first time an attempt is made to comprehensively study the church choirs of the Kyiv eparchy against the background of Russification processes of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. It is argued that the prohibition of ancient Ukrainian chants and the unification of church singing throughout the empire, as well as the regulation of church choirs were one of the directions of the Russification of the church and establishing control over the spiritual and moral standard of living of the Ukrainian lands. The personification of the choirmasters of the church choirs of the Kyiv eparchy is determined by the scientific novelty. It was found out that the church singing was a compulsory subject in the spiritual academic institutions of the Kyiv eparchy.
