Essay

The thesis is a comparative study of the specific features of word formation of political neologisms in the Ukrainian and English languages. There has been carried out a two-way, synchronous-comparative study, based on the theory of word formation, lexical semantics, and comparative semantics with reliance on the idea of the formal and semantic aspect of studying the structure of Ukrainian and English neologisms within the bilateral theory of a sign. Generalising different approaches to the definition of the notion «neologism», it is interpreted as any new word or phrase that appears in the language, as well as borrowing and new meanings of known words; bilateral units characterised by novelty of plans of expression (morphological neologisms) and/or content (semantic neologisms). Neologisms can be neutral or stylistically marked.
