Sedakova M.V. Implementation of English-language dance and sports discourse: cognitive and pragmatic aspects. – Qualification work on manuscript rights. Dissertation for obtaining the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 035 Philology. – Zaporizhzhia National University, Zaporizhzhia, 2023. The dissertation researches modern English-language dance and sports (ballroom) discourse. The relevance of the dissertation is due to the interdisciplinary orientation of the humanities, the anthropocentricity of modern research, focused on the interpretation of the functional characteristics of language, the analysis of communication as a phenomenon of human culture. Studies of the processes of social interaction increasingly gravitate towards the cognitive and communicative-pragmatic aspects of coverage, since it is precisely such approaches that make it possible to understand the intentions and instructions of communication, the ways of expressing these intentions, the numerous and complex connections that are established both between signs and between different discourses . Simultaneously with the problems of interdiscursiveness, the issues of the conditions and rules of successful communication in modern society and in certain social institutions remain insufficiently studied; the issue of the interaction of verbal and non-verbal means of actualizing communication. The purpose of the work is a comprehensive analysis of the English-language dance and sports discourse, taking into account cognitive, communicative-pragmatic and semiotic aspects. The realization of the goal involves solving the following tasks: - carry out a critical review of discourse concepts, criteria for its typology, approaches to structure analysis; - prove that the dance and sports (ballroom) discourse belongs to the institutional types of communication; - to develop an algorithm for the analysis of cognitive, communicative and semiotic spaces of dance and sports discourse; - reveal the role of interdiscursive connections in the formation of discourse-creative concepts, find out the influence of discursive intersections on the conceptual, figurative and value aspects of concepts; reveal the system-creating role of metaphorical representations; - to analyze the communication strategies and tactics of the participants of the dance and sports discourse, to determine their relevance and means of verbalization; to investigate the types, compatibility and functional-pragmatic load of multimodal resources of dance and sports discourse. The scientific novelty of the dissertation consists in the theoretical substantiation and practical proof of the institutional status of the dance-sports discourse; development of an original concept and research methodology of its hybrid nature. For the first time, the influence of interdiscursiveness, emotionality, and multimodality on the formation of conceptual, figurative, and evaluative aspects of discourse-creating concepts is demonstrated. In the dissertation for the first time: - the role of discursive intersections in English-language institutional communication is disclosed; - a comprehensive approach to the analysis of cognitive, communicative and semiotic levels of institutional communication in the dance and sports sphere of social interaction is proposed; - the possibility of complex realization of communicative goals and instructions of typical participants of dance and sports discourse by multimodal means is proven. The following fundamental concepts, principles and provisions served as the scientific-methodological base of the study: the general scientific concept of language, which is considered not only as a means of communication, but also as a tool of cognition and a cultural code; the modern concept of discourse as a cognitive-communicative phenomenon that transforms the environment into a socially and culturally significant fact of being; principles of discourse classification; provisions on the projection of social dynamics onto the multi-level hierarchical dynamic system of language in action and the relevance of status-oriented communication; the theory of conceptual dominants, which make up the foundations of national mentality, reproduce the value categorization of the world and perform the function of preserving knowledge about the world in various spheres of communication; provisions regarding the pragmatic importance of formal-content implications, their effectiveness in expressing emotional and psycho-physiological states and directing the interpretive activity of communicators; modern concept of communication as a multimodal phenomenon...
