Essay

In the dissertation the problems and genesis of the process of Ukrainization of the secondary school in the Southern region of Ukraine (1920–1938) are explored on the basis of the analysis of the source base and generalization of historical and pedagogical experience. The source base of the research is analyzed, the basis of which is the materials of the Central State Archive of the highest authorities of Ukraine, the state archives of Mykolayiv, Odesa and Kherson regions, the Central State Archive of public organizations of Ukraine; scientific works and publications of Ukrainian scientists of the end of XXth – the beginning of XXI century (dissertations, monographs, manuals, articles in proceedings), legislative documents and regulations, curricula, study programs, protocols, reports, which cover Ukrainian experience of organization of educational process and its content. The essence of the key concepts (axiology, bilingualism, state educational policy, mentality, multilingualism, native language, Ukrainization) are clarified and the essence of the concept of Ukrainianization of a secondary school is defined. The dissertation comprehensively examines the problem of Ukrainization of secondary schools in the South of Ukraine in 1920–1938 in a bilingual socio-cultural environment and identifies the main factors influencing the organization and state of Ukrainianization of educational space in the Southern region of Ukraine in 1920– 1938. Progressive ideas of Ukrainianization of educational space, their prospects in improving the content of modern Ukrainian-language education in the Southern regions of Ukraine.
