Essay

The dissertation presents the results of theoretical generalization of the horn performance technique and historical development of the horn playing art. The relevance of the study reflects the need of horn performing techniques examination in terms of its essential, functional, organizational and structural properties as well as the importance of understanding the regularities of the development of the elements of horn performing techniques system, transformational changes of which occurred directly and in close connection with the process of formation and evolution of its structural and organological parameters. The scientific novelty of the findings is that for the first time in Ukrainian musicology the essence of French horn performance technique is comprehensively theorized and its evolution in the process of constructive and artistic development of the instrument is studied: the specifics and structure of horn art performing techniques are revealed; the analysis is carried out and the classification of performing techniques as a key component of the system of horn performing technique is developed; the periodization of the evolutionary development of the horn in the interrelation of transformational changes of its organic and artistic- expressive properties is developed; the process of formation and development of elements of performing technique in horn art in the context of constructive evolution of the instrument is traced; musical creativity, artistic achievements and stylistic features of performance of the world’s leading horn players (Radek Baborak, Jeffrey Bryant, Radovan Vlatkovich and Valentin Marukhnо) are characterized as a reflection of the artistic result of the evolution of performing techniques in modern French horn art. Specified: information on the process of constructive evolution of the horn in European musical culture from ancient times to the present; questions of system organization of the performing apparatus of the horn player. The specifics of the modern French horn art performing techniques and the characteristics of its functioning in contemporary art have been further developed. A new approach to the system and principles of structural organization of the musician-instrumentalist’s performing technique is proposed.
