Essay

The topicality of the research is predetermined by an underestimated role of a conductor in the Ukrainian society over the second half of the 19th and early 21st century. The concept of identity which is actualized in philosophers’, social, political and cultural scientists’ studies has not been profoundly researched in the Art history scientific discourse. The aim of the thesis is formulated on an array of scientific literature and references and presents a complex research on peculiarities of a cultural, national, and professional personality and self-identity of a Ukrainian choir conductor, as a personalized cultural phenomenon, the mechanisms of which, to a great extent, reveal deep laws of self-identification of a Ukrainian artist. Therefore, the object of the research is the Ukrainian choir culture of the late 19th and early 21st century and the subject is a personality of a Ukrainian choir conductor of the abovementioned period in the context of the problems of identity.
