Essay

The dissertation investigates the life of the composer Sergei Bortkiewicz and his violin music. Based on archival documents, historical periodicals and other materials, the family tree of the artist was significantly detailed, his biography was enriched with new facts, the peculiarities of his career as a performer and teacher were revealed, the years of creation of many of his works were specified and the periodization of his music was formed. The role and place of transcription and translation in the artist's work are determined. The peculiarities of the compositional solution and the stylistics of many lost works are restored. A thorough analysis of the concerto for violin and orchestra op.22, sonata for violin and piano op.26, and violin pieces was presented and the peculiarities of the composer's interpretation of classical forms are established. Based on the audio recording, the lyrical intermezzo for violin and orchestra op.44, the score of which is lost, was analyzed.
