The thesis focuses on the establishment of theoretical principles and methodology of project management in documentation and information institutions of the People's Republic of China during digital transformation of society. The evolution of scientific views on project management in documentation and information institutions has been researched, the extent of previous theoretical research of the studied topic has been determined. Distinguishing characteristics of project management in libraries have been revealed given that libraries are the leading documentation and information institutions and the effective mechanism of developing the digital communication environment of the People's Republic of China. The current status of project management in social communication institutions of the People's Republic of China has been analyzed. Project management has been defined as an effective tool for the formation of the digital space of the country. It has also been noted that project management comprises innovative technical and technological solutions, projects in the field of development of digital information resources and service components. The origin and the key periods in the development of project management in documentation and information institutions that are based on the generalization of practical experience have been formulated. The approaches to the enhancement of the efficiency of project management in documentation and information institutions have been determined. They involve a complex of activities that is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of social and communication interaction of libraries both at internal and external levels and lay behind innovation and integration of library's procedures.
