Essay

The essence of the scientific problem, which is addressed in the PhD thesis lies in the development of a theoretical approach suitable for analyzing texts of a complex narrative structure, what are ancient historiographic works, as well as in establishing the logic of this narrative structure, which would make it possible to determine the common and distinctive features of the ancient Greek historiographic narrative of the Classical and Hellenistic-Roman periods. The need to develop an integrated approach to the study of ancient historiographic works is associated, on the one hand, with the presence of a stable tradition of studying the heritage of ancient historiography within the framework of certain branches of humanitarian knowledge (history, philosophy, political science, linguistics, literary criticism, rhetoric, etc.), and, on the other hand, with the fact that scientific research presents polar, mutually exclusive points of view both regarding the ideological content of the works of Xenophon and Herodian, and the moral and ethical characteristics of the main characters of these works.
