Essay

Chapter I of the thesis illustrates the problems of understanding the juvenile anticriminal policy of Ukraine. The current research status in opposing violent juvenile delinquency in Ukraine and also the place of juvenile criminology and juvenile justice in the sphere of combating a specified type of criminality hereto described. It is stated that today Ukraine is under rethinking of the problem of combating juvenile delinquency at the level of both society and the State, which is gradually abandoning the priority of repression for minors’ deviant behavior in favor of juvenile prevention. Another important direction of State policy in the area of combating juvenile delinquency is the creation of a juvenile justice system. An overview of available Ukrainian scientific works on the problem of combating juvenile delinquency has led to the conclusion that in most cases scholars who have dedicated themselves to research violent crimes, separate the issue of committing these crimes by minors. And, vice-versa, juvenile delinquency researchers are sure to identify a significant proportion of violent crimes in its structure, focusing their attention on its causes, conditions, and ways to prevent. Concepts, theories, doctrines, formed in juvenile criminology, directly determine the principles of juvenile justice, the formation of which is currently taking place in Ukraine.
