Object - pedagogical periodicals of the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century; the aim is to generalize the theory and experience of the organization of problem-based learning in higher education institutions, presented on the pages of pedagogical periodicals of the second half of XX - early XXI century, to update valuable ideas in modern conditions; methods - general scientific, historical-structural, concrete-historical, historical-genesis, historical-diachronic, criterion-complex, retro-praximetric, prognostic; novelty - for the first time the issues of organization of problem-based learning in higher education institutions of Ukraine of the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century based on the materials of pedagogical periodicals were studied in a wide chronological framework; the stages of covering the issues of organization of problem-based learning in higher education on the pages of pedagogical periodicals of the second half of XX - early XXI century are substantiated: Stage I (1955-1965) - stage regarding the purpose, tasks, ways of realization of problem-based learning in secondary and higher schools; Stage II (1966–1980) - the stage of substantiation of problem-based learning as a didactic concept and popularization of its main provisions on the pages of pedagogical periodicals; Stage III (1981-1990) - the stage of weakening the interest of researchers in the development of the theory of problem-based learning and positioning it in the pages of pedagogical periodicals as a method of teaching; Stage IV (1991-2014) - the stage of transformation of the theory of problem-based learning into educational technology and the reflection of its basic provisions in pedagogical periodicals, taking into account the requirements of national educational policy; the experience of organizing problem-based learning in higher education institutions of Ukraine in the process of teaching disciplines of the general cycle of training and professionally-oriented disciplines is generalized presented on the pages of pedagogical periodicals of the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century; the directions of actualization of valuable ideas of the organization of problem training in ZVO presented on pages of pedagogical periodicals of the investigated period, in modern conditions are outlined; issues of genesis of the idea of ​​organizing problem-based learning in higher education institutions were further developed; views of leading didactics (V. Kraevsky, I. Lerner, V. Lozova, M. Mahmutov, V. Okon, M. Skatkin, etc.) on the content, components and means of organizing problem-based learning in higher education; results - dissertation materials provide an objective interpretation of the genesis of the idea of ​​organizing problem-based learning in higher education, presenting its theoretical positions and experience on the pages of pedagogical periodicals in the specific historical period and provide grounds for understanding and balanced analysis of reform processes in education. modern free economic space; research materials can be used in colleges, institutes, universities, postgraduate education institutions; in the development of educational programs, curricula of disciplines "Pedagogy", "History of Pedagogy", "Pedagogical Skills", disciplines of choice for bachelor's and master's degrees in higher education, as well as in writing textbooks, manuals, other educational literature, organization pedagogical practice. A number of outlined questions can be used as topics for term papers and master's theses.
