Essay

The research object is to develop media literacy of secondary school art teachers. The research subject is to develop art teachers’ media literacy at institutions of further pedagogical education and pedagogical conditions of its implementation. The purpose of the research is to theoretically substantiate, develop and experimentally test the model of developing art teachers’ media literacy at institutions of further pedagogical education and pedagogical conditions of its implementation. According to the research purpose, such objectives are defined: based on the analysis of national and foreign scientific sources, to give the modern definition of the concepts “media literacy”, “media competence”, “media culture”, “media education”; to highlight the essence, structure and content of categories “art teachers’ media literacy”; to provide theoretical and methodological substantiation of the model of developing art teachers’ media literacy at institutions of further pedagogical education and pedagogical conditions of its implementation; to characterise learning and teaching provision of the model of developing art teachers’ media literacy at secondary education institutions; to experimentally test the effectiveness of the model of developing art teachers’ media literacy at institutions of further pedagogical education and pedagogical conditions of its implementation. To achieve the purpose and the objectives at different stages of scientific research, a set of research methods are used: theoretical: analysis of media sources, sociological, culturological, psychological and pedagogical, methodological literature on the studied issue to reveal the essence of the categories “media”, “mass media”, “media literacy”, “media competence”, “media information literacy”, “art teacers’ media literacy”; studying and generalising national and foreign experience in the issues of developing media technology and theory of media education; designing and modelling for defining the logic of the research and developing pedagogical model of developing media literacy of art teachers at secondary education institutions; empirical: pedagogical questionnaire, survey, testing, discussing, observing the process of developing teachers’ media literacy, studying products of specialists’ creative media activity; pedagogical experiment during the confirmatory, forming and control stages; methods of mathematical statistics for quantitative and qualitative analysis and testing the accuracy of the results of experimental study, implemented with the use of MS Excel software and Student’s t- distribution.
