Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the cognitive-interpretative analysis of pastoral as a carrier of the new European tradition in its historical and stylistic retrospective and manifestations of modern performing life. Pastoral in music is an established genre of European culture, which inherited a rich history of homo musicus, and therefore plays a prominent role in the modern concert repertoire (in particular, that of the Chinese vocalists studying in Ukraine). Concerting musicians must know the genealogy of classical genres of European culture, which are in the communicative situation of the late 20th-21st centuries, and their latest transformation in order to acquire in their performance the appropriate stylistic attribution of non-national patterns. The conclusions summarize the historical-theoretical and cognitiveinterpretative analysis of pastoral works of different national and stylistic traditions. The definition of pastoral in the light of the Christian concept of music as a heavenly picture of the world is offered. Thus, pastoral appears as a synthetic phenomenon that is more than a genre: it is a way of human worldview, a special picture of the world that has developed historically, and in the modern world occupies a prominent place as a part of the performing culture of homo musicus.
