Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the analysis of structural connections and features of culture-based studies. The choice of the topic is determined by two reasons. In connection with the European integration processes and with granting to Ukraine the candidate state for joining the EU status, it is important to understand what place culture-based studies occupy in the European system of sciences. Ukrainian humanitarian science has included only isolated samples of works devoted to the understanding of structural connections in culture-based studies in France. This paper aims to fill these research gaps and expand the scientific interest in the indicated areas. The methodology includes the use of general methods of theoretical knowledge and methods of philosophical knowledge. The theory of assemblages by M. DeLanda and elements of cross-cultural theory by M. Douglas and R. Debray were used. The main material for the research was the original French-language works of leading researchers: P. Bourdieu, J. Duby, I. Gingras, J. Revel, C. Genin, J.-F. Côte, etc., as well as the works of Ukrainian researchers: V. Panchenko, L. Levchuk, O. Onishchenko, O. Kravchenko, M. Popovych, T. Golichenko, S. Yosypenko, O. Pavlova, A. Tormakhova, E. Butsykina, S. Kholodynska, M. Sobutsky, I. Maslikova, V. Yermolenko, T. Ogarkova, O. Ivashina, etc. The object is the field of French humanitarianism. The subject is structural connections and features of French culture-based studies. The aim is to identify these structural connections and features of French culture-based studies. The set goal involves several tasks: the formation of the research source base and its analysis, the outline of the methodology and conceptual apparatus of the work; characterization of intellectual communities as a space between science and humanities; the description of history as a cultural process in the methodology of the “new historical science” of the Annals; delineation of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary trends in culture-based studies; characteristics of culture-based studies in France, its scientific and educational practices; analysis the cultural sociology role in the modern cultural discourse. In the dissertation, for the first time, the stage of the development of the French historiographical tradition after 1975 is investigated, that is, the trends in the field of French humanitarianism, which includes research in the field of culture, namely: la Culturologie, les Études culturelles and les Sciences de la culture; the differences between the concepts of “cultural”, “culturological” and “culture-based” are distinguished and explained; the method of assemblages (according to the concept of M. DeLanda) is applied to the field of culture. The source-scientific and methodological bases related to the French tradition of culture-based studies, to which insufficient attention has been paid in domestic cultural science, have been specified; the understanding of the historiographical approach, which is considered tangential to the “anthropological turn”, the Annals school and “cultural history”, was clarified, as well as the understanding of the institutional approach, which was specified due to the application of the concepts of M. Douglas in the work (cross – cultural theory), R. Debray (mediology) and M. DeLanda (theory of assemblages); peculiarities of French research in the field of culture, modern trends, specifics of carrying out research in the field of culture in France in scientific and educational practices – in particular, through the use of a comparative method to analyze the characteristics of research in the field of culture in France and in Ukraine; the role of the Annals school in culture-based studies in France in the XXth century as a breakthrough in the field of historiography and history and a response to the crisis of humanities in the XIXth century; an institutional approach to the study of culture and cultural phenomena with the help of references to the cross-cultural theory of M. Douglas and the works of I. Gingras, as well as a separate analysis of formal institutions and informal intellectual communities and their influence on the formation and development of culture-based studies in France; interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary trends in culture-based studies in France; the specifics of the impact of culture-based studies in France on other forms of culture-based studies that exist within the North Atlantic cultural region. The concepts of “new history”, “new cultural history”, “critical turn” and “théorie française” were further developed, as well as the linguistic clarification of cultural terminology: the concept of “culture” through the application of the theory of assemblages by M. DeLanda, research in the field of culture.
