Thesis for the Doctor of Philosophy of Pedagogical Sciences Degree on a specialty 13.00.01 - general pedagogics and history of pedagogics. - Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Poltava, 2023. The dissertation provides a historical and pedagogical analysis of the content, main methods, and forms of legal education for officers in institutions of higher military education in Ukraine from the mid-20th to the beginning of the 21st century. We conducted a hermeneutic examination of the researched issue by utilizing historiographical analysis and organizing the available sources. This approach enabled us to identify the primary areas of scientific inquiry. Within these directions, certain aspects of the investigated problem were considered: historical-pedagogical, theoretical-methodological, organizational-methodological, philosophical-legal, and socio-philosophical. However, the question of the development of legal education for officers in the institutions of higher military education in Ukraine from the mid-20th to the beginning of the 21st century received insufficient attention. The main concepts within the terminological field was analyzed. The current definition of "legal education" includes the teaching process and the process of upbringing. Using the historical-genetic method, we have discovered the main reasons for the formation of legal education for officers in higher military institutions in Ukraine. The stages of legal education for officers during the researched period, the following were: Stage I (1946-1975) - Formation of legal education in Ukraine's higher military schools under the Soviet legislation; Stage II (1975-1991) - Consolidation of legal education in domestic higher military schools under the Soviet legislation; Stage III (1991-2015) - Development of legal education in Ukraine's higher military schools during the period of reform and integration into the national education system. By using chronological and logical-historical methods, we were able to identify certain trends and contradictions in the development of legal education for officers in higher military institutions in Ukraine from the mid-20th to the beginning of the 21st century. However, we also found certain contradictions in the development of legal education for officers. The content of legal education was examined through the prism of cognitive, practical, and social experiences as its structural components. The ways of providing legal education to officers in HMEIs of Ukraine from the mid-20th to the early 21st century were diverse. These included different forms such as mass, group, and individual learning, and various activities like political information, lectures, practical sessions, independent work, business games, subject clubs, electives, meetings with legal experts, drafting official documents, working with periodicals, and materials of court and disciplinary cases. Participation in conferences, competitions, and subject weeks also played a significant role in legal education. The methods of organizing legal education used conversation, discussion, explanation, narration, presence at court hearings, solving situational tasks, preparation of reports, assignments, persuasion, habituation, encouragement, and punishment. Personal examples of commanders and public opinion were also influential. These processes were intended to educate and raise officers. Using the historical-comparative and comparative-pedagogical methods, a scientific evaluation of the experience of legal education for officers in the institutions of higher military education of Soviet Ukraine was conducted, comparing it with the achievements of independent Ukraine. During the researched period, both positive and negative aspects of legal education for future officers were found. During the period of research, the study used the competency and andragogical approaches, along with scientific-pedagogical extrapolation, to identify potential ways to creatively utilize the experience of organizing legal education for officers in higher military education institutions in Ukraine. These directions are: at the state and societal level, at the level of transforming the military education system of Ukraine, at the level of reforming the legal education of officers in the Higher Military Educational Institutions.
