Essay

In this dissertation, the genesis and genre specificity of horror as a genre of horror literature is investigated, the determinant of which is the ability to evoke a sense of fear in the reader caused by a violation of logic and ideas about the world. Contemporary horror literature is a complex system of genres, ranging from low-level, bodily slashers, whose plots are often focused on violent scenes of violence and death, to the horror genre, which is typically focused on psychological horror. "Scary stories", whose figurative components are characters of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies and monsters, works of mortal themes, where hypertrophied destructive impulses of the human psyche are presented, occupy a certain place in world culture for many centuries. The study analyzes the poetic features of the horror genre and its interpretations in the world and Ukrainian literary traditions on the basis of small, medium and large literary forms that represent the horror genre in world and Ukrainian literature.
