The dissertation is devoted to the theoretical and empirical study of the influence of the cognitive styles of the individual on the formation of self-preservation behavior of student youth. According to the results of the analysis of the scientific literature, it was determined that the most elaborated concept of "self-preservation behavior" is from the point of view of demography and social psychology. At the same time, the desire to contribute to increasing the level of self-preservation of each member of society dictates the need to understand the motivational, cognitive, emotional and social aspects that influence a person's decisions and actions regarding his own safety and protection. Therefore, the study of this concept in the light of personality psychology and the psychology of individual differences is relevant. In addition, it is appropriate to study this concept in the context of student youth, since it is during youth that the perception and assimilation of certain norms and patterns of behavior, the awareness of needs and motives, the determination of value orientations, interests and ideas that affect the entire subsequent life take place. The main aspects of the study of self-preservation behavior in psychology are presented. The most important of them are: definition of the concepts of "self-preservation" and "self-preservation behavior", definition of the role of the individual as a subject of self-preservation and strategies of self-preservation behavior, factors that influence the formation of health-preservation and self-preservation behavior. It has been established that the cognitive styles of the individual, which characterize individual ways of receiving and processing information from the surrounding world and thus ensure the connection between the environment and the individual, are one of the factors of behavior, including behavior aimed at self-preservation. An overview of modern trends in the study of cognitive styles of personality was carried out and it was determined that the study of the influence of cognitive styles on human behavior remains an important and relevant direction of scientific research today. In the context of this study, it is stated that understanding the degree of influence of cognitive styles on self-preservation behavior will provide an opportunity to more effectively influence its formation among student youth. The main signs of human behavior that characterize it as a subject of self-preservation are identified: motivation to preserve health and improve the quality of life, compliance with the rules of personal hygiene (healthy lifestyle), tendency to take responsibility for one's actions, self-realization and vitality. The levels of formation of self-preservation behavior of student youth were determined (high, sufficient, medium and low levels) and the influence of cognitive styles of the individual on individual signs of self-preservation behavior and on the level of its formation was revealed. The styles of self-preservation behavior of students are singled out (optimal, inert, uncertain, impractical). Statistically significant differences in the characteristics of the manifestation of cognitive styles of students who demonstrate different styles of self-preservation behavior according to indicators of analytical-holistic, reflexive-impulsiveness and tolerance to uncertainty were revealed. A model of the formation of self-preservation behavior of the student's personality was developed, which became the basis of the social-psychological training program for the formation and correction of self-preservation behavior of students. The purpose of the training is to investigate and understand the reasons and mechanisms of the formation of the behavior style of each participant; to form a higher level of responsibility for oneself and one's actions, to contribute to the correction of undesirable behavioral manifestations and the formation of an optimal style of self-preservation behavior of students. The analysis of the results obtained after the implementation of social-psychological training on the formation and correction of self-preservation behavior of students makes it possible to draw a conclusion about its effectiveness. Based on the results of a theoretical and empirical study of the problem of forming self-preservation behavior of student youth, practical recommendations have been developed for young people who wish to take care of their own health and well-being, develop self-preservation skills.
