Essay

Today, democratic societies face a number of global challenges, one of which is the spread of populist movements and the ideology of populism in general. Moreover, these problems are characteristic of all democratic countries, regardless of the degree of development of the political system, its national characteristics, the effectiveness of the functioning of the parliamentarism system, etc. The big "explosion" of populism at the beginning of the 21st century actualized the problem of the effectiveness of representative democracies in general and representative government in particular, their ability to respond to changes occurring within civil society, as well as the degree of adaptability of political institutions capable of taking into account new requests and, in parallel, preserving traditional mechanisms coordination of interests in society. The dissertation provides a scientific and theoretical justification of the phenomenon of populism in the context of history, ideology, technology, analysis of the features of its application in modern political discourse and the specifics of its functioning in the political system of Ukraine. The theoretical foundations of political populism in the context of modern political discourse are substantiated, including: clarified definitions, types, goals, prerequisites, results, stages, classification, methods, technologies; basic concepts in the ideologies of liberalism, socialism, nationalism; directions for reducing the negative impact of political populism during elections in Ukraine, based on international experience and their application for the purpose of establishing democratic values in the field of political governance.
