The dissertation defines and studies a complex of issues related to the
emergence and manifestations of the phenomenon of solo vocal performance in
choral concerts of the era of classicism. These questions are not sufficiently
researched until now, since sacred concerts of the era of classicism are of
interest to researchers and performers primarily as works written for the choir.
The work of Ukrainian composers of the second half of the 18th century,
A. Rachynsky, M. Berezovsky, D. Bortnyansky, A. Vedel and S. Dekhtyarev,
was chosen as the research material. Attention to the creative heritage of each of
the Ukrainian representatives of the era of classicism provides grounds for
forming a holistic panorama of the development of the phenomenon of solo
vocal performance within the studied period and determining its individual
manifestations in the work of each of the composers.
The methodology of the dissertation consists of a complex of basic
general scientific and special methods: the method of historicism and
comparative analysis, which provides the basis for identifying the initial
impulses that caused the emergence of the phenomenon of solo vocal
performance in Ukrainian spiritual music of the era of classicism, as well as for
studying the further ways of development of this practice in the works of the
theoretical research (analysis and synthesis, mental modeling, ascent from the
abstract to the concrete, etc.) are included.
The scientific novelty of the dissertation materials lies in the fact that
choral concerts of the era of classicism for the first time received a scientific
understanding from the standpoint of solo vocal performance, the identification
of the reasons for the appearance of solo vocal parts and their artistic
significance in terms of the specifics of refraction and synthesis of national and
non-national components. On the basis of the analysis of choral concerts and the
study of archival materials, the singing voices and performance of soloists, for
whom solo parts were written in sacred concerts of the era of classicism, were
investigated.
The practical significance of the research results lies in the possibility of
using the dissertation materials in the educational and creative activities of
vocalists and choirmasters during the preparation of solo vocal parts in choral
concerts of the era of classicism, during the preparation of materials for reading
lecture courses related to the professional training of students specializing in
«Academic Singing», «Choir Conducting» and related specialties in higher
musical educational institutions of Ukraine («History of Vocal Art», «Choral
Literature», «History of Ukrainian Music», etc.), during the continuation of
work on the study of Ukrainian sacred music of the classical era, in particular,
the phenomenon of solo vocal performance.
