Essay

The dissertation presents one of the fundamental aspects of the influence of a particular style of a composer in the national or in the wider spiritual continuum. Various aspects of this rather complex and ambiguous problem require a specific scientific tool that has helped to shape the essence of musical and evolutionary processes par excellence, focusing, in particular, on what is in the work of a leading artist of his time becomes the most important and most actively perceived and transformed by other composers. This is not a secondary aspect in knowing the essence of a piece of music. The receptivity of traditions, which are primarily transmitted from iconic personalities, creators of new art systems, corresponding to socio and historical changes, a new aesthetic worldview and the ability to comprehend the meaning of the universe in a new way, underlies most musical works of different eras and styles. The purpose of the study lies in considering the concept of individual composer’s style on the example of Karol Szymanowski’s piano music in the projection on the work of Polish and Ukrainian composers. The subject of the dissertation is connected with the analytical studies of the category “the concept of individual composer’s style” in theoretical, philosophical, aesthetic, historical aspects, projected on the work of Karol Szymanowski, in particular on his piano works. The Karol Szymanowski’s piano creativity is projected on the piano works of Polish and Ukrainian composers of his time and next generations. The dissertation focuses on the analysis of Karol Szymanowski’s lifecreation, on the basis of which is based the concept of his individual style as a set of “basic meanings” and their transformation in piano music by Grażyna Bacewicz, Roman Maciejewski, Piotr Perkowski, Artur Malawski, Tadeusz Szeligowski, Borys Liatoshynsky, Antin Rudnytsky and Igor Belza.
