The dissertation is the first comprehensive study to prove the importance of archival audiovisual documents as sources of information in media projects and to identify the prospects for involving this type of information resources in the system of social communications.
The source base of the research is a wide range of various types of sources, which are mostly introduced into scientific circulation for the first time: archival audiovisual sources, legislative acts, industry regulatory documents, scientific and methodological developments, reference publications, scientific periodicals, Internet resources.
The reliability of the dissertation results is ensured by a set of scientific approaches: archival, source, documentary, socio-communication, informational, cultural and philosophical, each of which has its own theoretical and methodological principles of study, which contributed to a holistic understanding of the significance of audiovisual documents of the National Archives Fund as information sources for media projects.
It is concluded that despite the increased research interest in audiovisual documentation, there is still insufficient coverage in the Ukrainian scientific tradition of the possibilities and prospects of involving this type of document in the media projects creation.
It is proved that archival audiovisual documents as specific types of documents are an inexhaustible source base for media projects development and implementation. The information potential of archival AVDs contributes to the creation of high-quality content for media projects in history, culture, art, etc. By involving audiovisual objects, media projects become an important tool for promoting cultural heritage and preserving social memory. It is noted that the work on media projects that involve archival audiovisual information requires knowledge of: regulatory, legal, scientific and methodological, models and practices of archiving documentation on non-traditional media, specifics of archiving objects and their species composition, principles of archival classification, directions and forms of use of documented information in the media space.
AVDs archiving is considered as a set of measures related to all periods of documents' life – from their transfer to archives and other archiving entities to their storage and processing in funds repositories. The set of measures includes: legal regulation, regulatory and methodological support, principles of their systematisation, methods of description and creation of reference apparatus, use of documentary resource information potential.
Emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects of using archival audiovisual information in media projects, which include methods, directions and forms of actualisation, problems of media use efficiency of AVDs information. The types of effects of the use of retrospective audiovisual information in media projects are determined, including: informative, cultural and educational, aesthetic, and scientific.
It is stated that digitisation of cultural heritage, including audiovisual one, and the formation of an integrated system of digital resources has become a key trend in the network society. The transition to digital technologies is driven by growing information needs, media development, and broad cultural exchange. Expanding access to and engaging the information potential of audiovisual documents in the media space has become one of the important digitisation tasks that archives are solving. As a result of the implementation of digitalisation programmes by archives, a digital fund for the use of NAF documents is being created.
The article defines the characteristic features of a journalist's creative laboratory in the process of developing and implementing a media project, which includes the ability to: identify relevant issues; generate innovative ideas; master search techniques and methods; analyse and interpret audiovisual sources; put into practice knowledge of technological techniques; expand the research field of the project; establish communication with archivists, scholars, and the media; know the basics of management and marketing; adhere to legal and ethical standards, in particular, the "Code of Ethics of the Ukrainian Journalist".
It is found that media projects in Ukraine have been influenced by foreign and international practices, which are characterised by the growing role of the initiatives of the UN specialised agency UNESCO in the protection and preservation of audiovisual heritage as a source of cultural projects. Stimulating thematic research involving AVDs is a common feature of Ukrainian and foreign media project practices.
