The dissertation research is dedicated to the study of the problem of coping behavior of the sailor's personality in conditions of uncertainty and risk.
In the context of Ukrainian society, the relevance of the mentioned problem becomes particularly acute and an integral part of modern psychological research. The specificity of the last decades in Ukraine is filled with a series of complex events that cause stress, among which: military actions, the COVID-19 pandemic, social and
economic crises, – which in turn put pressure on the psychological and physical wellbeing of individuals.
It was found that the study of coping strategies in professional activities, especially in conditions of uncertainty and risk, is extremely important for the psychology of professional activity. It is determined that understanding the context of health and wellbeing of professionals at the workplace from the perspective of a salutogenic approach is
particularly important. It has been proven that the profession of a sailor requires a special approach to the formation and development of coping behavior, and the main factors that influence this process are the individual-psychological characteristics of the sailor, his experience, level of training, as well as socio-economic conditions of activity.
It has been discovered that typical working conditions of a sailor are influenced by a number of factors that can become a source of stress and potential danger. Objective and subjective factors of uncertainty and risk in navigation have been systematized (spatial deprivation, technical failures, piracy risk, extreme weather conditions,
interpersonal factors). It is substantiated that the coping behavior of sailors in conditions of uncertainty and risk is a key element of their professional activity, which helps them effectively overcome challenges and risks in their professional activity.
The following subsystems characterizing the studied psychological constructs have been identified: The subsystem of "Sailor's Coping Behavior"; The subsystem of "Conditions of Uncertainty and Risk"; The subsystem of "General Intellectual Development of Personality"; The subsystem of "Personal Characteristics of the Sailor";
The subsystem of "Psychological State of the Sailor"; The subsystem of "Physical Health
Condition of Sailors"; The subsystem of "Socio-demographic Indicators".
An empirical verification of the developed systemic model for studying the relationships between the defined parameters, which characterize the key parameters of the subsystems at the content level, has been conducted. An Author's questionnaire and defined psychodiagnostic techniques have been developed: The L. Szondi Portrait
Election Method, the M. Lüscher Color Test, the R. Cattell Sixteen Personality Factor
Questionnaire (Form A), the W. Schutz FIRO-B Method, the V.N. Duzhin and E.F. Vanderlik Short Preliminary Selection Test (SPS), and the N.V. Rodina Modified WOCQ Questionnaire for Identifying Coping Strategies.
