English-language political discourse has been the subject of study by many scholars, but there is still no single definition of this concept. This fact may indicate the complexity and multifaceted nature of political discourse, as well as its importance for understanding political processes. Manipulation in political discourse is a problem that is of increasing concern to society. The growing interest in politics makes people think about how language is used to influence their thoughts and actions. Discourse as a whole is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that is studied not only by linguists, but also by representatives of other sciences, such as sociology, philosophy, sociology, psychology, cognitive meta-anthropology, anthropology of social life, and philology. Previously, discourse was identified with text, but in modern linguistics these concepts are distinguished.
Discourse is not just a text, but also the communicative situation in which it occurs, and it is also understood as the knowledge and skills possessed by the participants in communication. In this regard, it is worth conducting philological
studies of the phenomenon of manipulation in the context of English-language political discourse.
The researcher is the first to prove and propose the author's own term of manipulation in the context of English political discourse. Manipulation is one of the forms of the problem of death and immortality of the individual, which manifests itself in a conscious or unconscious desire to influence other people through English-language political discourse and other types of discourse in order to subdue other individuals to their will, selfish intentions and self-centered desires.
Dong Qi concludes that manipulation in English political discourse is a word with a negative connotation, but in reality it is present in all language utterances. Any successful communication is a manipulation, even if it has no negative consequences.
Image-making of political figures plays a crucial role in achieving success in English-speaking politics. It is the right image that makes it possible to form a trusting relationship between voters and the people, which will allow them to establish contact with people and respond to people's requests and needs.
English-language political discourses are interpreted as dynamic platforms where people exchange views on political topics, shaping and polishing the political consciousness of society. It is difficult to overestimate their role in the democratic process, as they allow for: free expression of views and opinions; open exchange of information; formation and improvement of political thought; and strengthening of democratic principles.
English-language political discourses are not just a collection of words, but holistic "world views" that are constructed using a rich arsenal of linguistic tools. Their impact on the audience goes far beyond simply informing about political events. They are capable of: shaping political opinion; manipulating consciousness; legitimizing political actions; and creating new political realities. Among the most common linguistic tools used in English-language political discourse are metaphors
and similes, epithets and hyperbole, modal verbs and phraseology, statistics and facts, quoting authoritative sources, and focusing on the audience's emotions, which allows for a deeper understanding of the meaning of the information message.
The relevance of the study lies in the need to find out how the linguistic means used in English-language political discourse influence the formation of political views. Since political reality is formed with the use of these means, studying them allows us to better understand the process of its construction.
English-language political discourse is not just a collection of words describing political events, it is the phenomenon of using language as a powerful tool to achieve certain goals that go far beyond mere information. Political texts filled with hidden meanings and motives are capable of: shaping public opinion; manipulating consciousness; promoting certain political ideas; legitimizing political actions; and creating new political realities. Understanding the hidden goals of English-language political discourse is extremely important for critical thinking. When perceiving information from political sources, it is important not to be manipulated, but to critically analyze texts, take into account different points of view and form your own opinion.
