Li Y. Lacunarity in Chinese-Ukrainian Literary Translations

The culture of each ethnic group has its own unique characteristics, sointheprocess of intercultural communication, the cultures of different ethnicgroupsshow obvious inconsistencies, that is, the cultural differences that researcherstalkabout. In the field of translation, these differences often create lacunas(lackoflinguistic means to convey relevant information in one language comparedtoanother), which are increasingly becoming the object of research bybothlinguistsand culturologists from different countries, in particular in China andUkraine.Interest in the phenomenon of lacunarity arises at the time of the “cultural turn”inlinguistics, and continues constantly to the present day, linguists haveevencreateda separate discipline – the lacunology, but despite this, theoretical problemsinthisfield have not decreased during this time. In particular, the use of terminologyremains inconsistent, the boundaries of research are unclear, and manysolutionsare impractical, and different theories are chaotically involved inresearch. Thissituation has led to the fact that a set of standard solutions for eliminatinglacunasin literary translations has not yet been formed, and many wonderful UkrainianandChinese literary works have not been translated, which has slowed downthespreadof Chinese and Ukrainian cultures. Therefore, it is very urgently tosearchforanalgorithm of translator's actions that would help overcome the barriers of culturallacunarity and successfully present the heritage of one culture to another.
