Despite significant progress in determining the pathogenesis of the temporomandibular joint, questions remain unresolved regarding the impact of endocrine factors and hormonal changes on the development of this pathology. In particular, it has not been sufficiently studied how estrogen levels affect the condition of joint structures in menstruating women and women with amenorrhea. Identification of the relationship between hormone levels and changes in the structure of the temporomandibular joint will improve the diagnosis and treatment of this patient population. This study revealed significant associations between anamnestic data, laboratory values of estradiol and osteocalcin and the development of intraarticular disorders of the temporomandibular joint. This allows us to separate risk factors in patients with intra-articular disorders. The difference in the significance between the proton density of the posterior and anterior menisci in the groups proves the hormonal and sex dependence of temporomandibular joint diseases. The introduction of meniscus proton density determination into the magnetic resonance imaging protocol will improve the accuracy of diagnosing degenerative changes in the meniscus.
