Fatullaieva N. Mock politeness and mock impoliteness strategies of dialogical speech of characters in British postmodern fiction

The object of the study is the dialogical speech of characters in which mock politeness and mock impoliteness strategies were employed. The aim of the research is to conduct a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the categories of mock politeness and mock impoliteness, taking into account the features of the functioning of mock politeness and mock impoliteness strategies in dialogical speech and the means of their realization in British postmodern fiction. The theoretical and methodological framework of the dissertation is based on the integrated use of methods: the descriptive method with the technique of internal interpretation and the paradigmatic approach, the method of component analysis, the method of functional-pragmatic analysis, and the method of quantitative analysis. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that it is the first in-depth analysis of the categories of mock politeness and mock impoliteness; an integrated models of mock politeness and mock impoliteness are outlined, based on existing approaches to understanding (im)politeness and its role in communication; the peculiarities of the realization of mock politeness and mock impoliteness strategies are analyzed considering the functional-pragmatic aspect; and an inventory of multi-level means for the realization of mock politeness and mock impoliteness strategies in British postmodern fiction is presented. The research results can be utilized in the development of theoretical courses in pragmalinguistics, communicative pragmatics, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics, where they will contribute to a deeper understanding of the functional-pragmatic aspects of communicative-pragmatic strategies. The study of mock politeness and mock impoliteness may also prove useful in the context of intercultural communication, where understanding the nuances of politeness and impoliteness in various cultural contexts is essential.
