Shcherban' N. Evalution of self-pollinated lines and hybrids of sunflower for pollen production ability

Research subjects: sunflower. Research objectives: selection of the most valuable, in the respect of breeding, forms with high amount of pollen. Methods: individual selection, hybridization. Theoretical and practical results: the variation and correlation of main characters of pollen productivity of self-pollinated lines and hybrids of sunflower was established. The degree of influence of pollen production ability of Rf-lines on seed set in plants of the mother form was determined. Novelty of introduced: for the first time in the conditions of the south-east steppe region of the Ukraine the detailed study was conducted and the evaluation of self-pollinated lines and hybrids of sunflower for pollen productivity was given. The influence of pollen productivity of pollinators on the seed set of the sterile analog plants was investigated. The necessity of the evaluation of self-pollinated lines for pollen production ability during selection of pairs for crossing was proved. Implementation degree: the linear material with high pollen production was obtained. Effectiveness: strict discarding of breeding material for the characters of pollen productivity.
