Essay

The maim points of the dissertation have been of published in nine printed works. The dissertation is devoted to the development of the science of archeology in 1805 till 1920. The work shows how, arising from episodical and occasional works in sphere archeology in the beginning of 19thcentury (I.S Ryzhskiy, Kh.P. Rommel, G.P. Uspenskiy). The systematical archeological research, connected mostly with the name of V.V. Passek, started to be conducted. The interest in Archeology among the scientists of Kharkiv University grew since late in the 60-s of the 19th ctntury, that is connected with the beginnind of holding the Archaejljgical Congreses. In the second half of 19th century N.D. Borisyak, U.I. Morosov, D.I. Bagaley, Ye.K. Redin and others made a great contribution to Archaeology. The greatest development of Archaeological Science in Kharkiv University began early in the 20th century. This development was connected with the preparation and the holding of the 12th and 13th Archeological Congresses (Kh arkiv) 1902, Yekaterinoslav, 1905). At that time both well khown and young scientists such as V.Ye. Danilevich, YE.P. Trifiliev, V.A. Babenko, A.S. Fedorovsky and others carried others carried out archaeological investigations. In general, the development of Archaeological Science in Kharkiv University was in accordance with the general level of development of archeaology in Russian Empire.
