In the paper the essence and the generalization of the ways of realization of the tasks of the preschool and junior childrens' mental upbringing in a family. The theoretical substantion of the development of a scientific thought during the investigated period from the point of view of the mental upbringing of the children in the family and practical means of mental upbringing (a play, a toy, a book for children, family holidays, musical and literary parties, performances, excursions to the museums, etc). The role of pedagogical journalistics in popularization of the authoritative scientists', doctors' views according to the oblem of the mental upbringing of the children is exposed.
