Essay

The dissertation deals with the problem of role and function of art in the system of culture of totalitarian society of different historic epoches. In accordance with author's view her own typology of totalitarism was grounded. The functions of art in the system of culture of two concrete incarnations of different kinds of totalitarian regimes have been investigated. According to the author's view they are the most expressed social models in historic retrospective of the past epoches, conservative (protective) totalitarism in Spain at the time of inquisition and counter-reformations and revolutionary totalitarism of Jacobin period of the Great French revolution. Socio-political functions were analyzed Likeness of mass sights and mass theatrical performances and total city measures was shown. Likeness of its producing was shown. Common mechanisms of socio-psycologicl influence of the population has been investigated. It has been determined that desired result of totalitarian regimes was obtained in diff erent ways but the main was common: art helped to create necessary spiritual atmosphere which was impossible to reach without using only primus, control and terror. The forecast of warning concerning establishing totalitarian regime in informational society and using of potenlially new art of virtual reality has been done.
