Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the investigation and description of semantic characteristics of address, which have certain meaning not by themselves but as a means of obtaining certain communicative aim. The thesis develops the point of view that address included into an utterance functions as a powerful factor of speech influence on the addressee, and its choice and usage is effected not automatically but after evaluating a lot of linguistic and extralinguistic phenomena by the speaker. It is underlined that grammar approach to the various forms of address usage involves into its sphere a considerable lexical layer with neutral and emotionally evaluating content which is concretized in the semantic space of address. The system of semantic evaluations connected with the types of nominations of the addressed people is dis-closed; the addressee semantization is closely connected with its nomination according to identifying and qualifying signs. It is discovered that the forms of address bear the informa tion not only about an addressee but also about communicators' interrelations, their role positions, and this address functions as an identifier and regulator of social and interpersonal relation character.
