The object of the research is the activity of Ukrainian educators and public figures in the sphere of schooling and pedagogical thought. Methods: comparative, historical-retrospective, of theoretical generalization. Results: the grounds of O.Barvinskiy's consciousness and goal of life formation are determined the leading tendencies of his pedagogical, social-educative activities are singled out, his contribution to the development of the theoretical basis of national education, to the theory and practice of adult education, to the preparation of Ukrainian textbooks are analyzed, his activity as an ambassador is researched.
