Dissertation is devoted to research of forming processes and activity of the ataman formings - the original self-defence forces of ukrainian peasantry in context of general events of civil war of second half 19181919. In labour consider the origin preconditions of the ataman formings, principles of their organization and activity, determined the socio-economic and social and political factors which had influence on ataman position and internal conflict of it development Into research brought sense to light of military and social policy of the ataman formings into period of investigation, and also in wresting for conquest of political authority on Ukraine by different forces in second part 1918-1919.
