The process of librarian's profession development in its modern concepts and strategic directions has been investigated in the dissertation, especially in terms of interaction between librarian and reader while providing services, and also when managing the current library changes. The theoretical analysis of the problem dynamic in pedagogical literature has been done, which proved the priority of the system-and-activity approach, modern concept of individual socialization and professionalism and his integrity to the society. The consideration of the librarian's profession development within the system of mental labour and „man - to - man" activity has been grounded in details. The role of the librarian's profession within the democratization and humanization of the society, librarians' competence expansion under conditions of informatization, have been analyzed in the context of equal and free access of all the citizens to the sources of culture and information. On the basis of content-analysis andsynthesis of expert evaluation data, the strategic directions of strengthening communicative-pedagogic basics of the librarian's profession have been determined; the spreading of dialogue methods application in readers and users service; professional mastering of libraries staff while managing the changes in the libraries; growth in importance of continuous education as communicative labour system and librarian's professionalism. The conceptual model of librarian's profession development has been worked out, it includes substantial components which pre-determine its destination in the society, and also strategic directions for development, connected with current changes in the society and technologies. The influence of tele-communicative, computer, digital media-variants of shaping the informative sphere onto the librarian-informative activity, professional consciousness and special training have been traced.
