The features of gastric secretion, interdigestive and postprandial motility of stomach and jejunum, gastric emptying, gastrin levels and effect of carbachol and cholecystokinin on proximal gastrointestinal tract motor activity has been investigated by means duodenectomy. Our findings show that insulin gastric secretion wasn t changed, pentagastrin and histamine gastric secretion were decreased and carbachol gastric secretion was increased by duodenectomy. Postprandial motility of the stomach and jejunum is as in controls, interdigestive motor activity is characterized by shorten quiescence period. The frequency of contractions in jejunum was diminished in duodenectomized dogs both fasted and postprandial. Gastric emptying is slowed, basal gastrin blood levels are enhanced, carbachol motor reaction of stomach and jejunum is increased and cholecystokinin motor reaction is decreased by duodenectomy.
