Direct phosphorylation of nuclei of functionalized 1,3-azoles was accomplished to yield derivatives of four novel phosphorus-containing fused heterocycles, which incorporate imidazole and 1,2,4-triazole rings annelated with both 1,4,2-diazaphosphinine (also including a bridge-head phosphorus atom) and 1,5,2-diazaphosphepine rings.
