Essay

Investigation has demonstrated that inhibitors of lipoxygenases decreased necrosis and induced apoptosis in rat hepatocytes in the primary cultures. An increase in mitochondrial electron transport chain activity in cultured hepatocytes was observed.Exogenous leukotrienes B4 and C4 caused an increase of necrosis in hepatocytes, but significantly decreased apoptosis induced by lipoxygenase inhibitors.
