Budzyak O. Scientific Basis of Regional Agricultural Land Use (as in Lvivs'ka Province).

The dissertation studies the regional aspects of agricultural land use. A thorough analysis has been given to the present condition and socio-economic prerequisites to efficient land use. A more elaborate notion of land use and land user formed the basis of the definition of forms of land use with regard to the kinds of land users. The theoretical and methodological basis of optimisation of agricultural land use in the region has been refined. The method of estimation of the optimal percentage of forest and cultivated land and crops structure to allow an ecologically balanced land use has been developed. A comparison of optimal and actual percentage of forest and cultivated land use was made and ways to improve these are pointed out. The methods of estimation of the efficiency of land use by different types of management are presented in the paper. The methods are derived from the efficiency ratio and economical efficiency of land use. An analysis of benefits and drawbacks of land use by subsidiary smallholdings, farms and other kinds of agricultural businesses was made with guides to follow to improve the operation of the businesses.
