V. Hnatuyk's life and activity in the context of the Ukrainian National Revival at the turn of the 19th-20th c. To determine activity of V. Hnatuyk as a historian and public figure. Problem-and-chronological, comparative, retrospective methods. The process of evolution of his national and scientific viewpoints, his activity in raising of the national conciousness of the Ukrainians, his contributoion to the development of the T. Shevchenko Scientific Society are analysed. Results are used in teaching of Ukrainian history, spheres of une are teaching and public activity.
