On the base of a big amount of archive sources the role of Russian orthodox Church in the social-political life of Ukraine in 1917 - 1921 is studied. The sphere of the Churge -state life with interaction on transforming social and national relations in Russia as well as a conflict among principally variouns types of cultures of Ukraine and Russia in the united orthodox space are observed in the thesis. The substantiated idea about historic - canonical interpretation of the role and place for Kyiv metropolis in the conceptions for nation forming has formed two different identities : Ukrainian and orthodox always provocated the permanent cultural conflict which in the difficult political conditions was transformed into the crisis of national identity.
